Quick Licence Guide
- CC0 / public domain
- Usually permits copying, editing and commercial reuse without attribution, but trademark, privacy, publicity and other non-copyright rights can still apply.
- CC BY
- Commercial use and modification are generally allowed, but you must credit the creator and link to or identify the licence.
- CC BY-SA
- Requires attribution and may require derivative work to be shared under the same licence.
- MIT, ISC or Apache 2.0
- Permissive open-source licences commonly used for icon sets. Commercial use is normally allowed, but copyright and licence notices may need to be preserved when files or source code are distributed.
- Custom stock licence
- Read the platform’s exact terms. Common restrictions include standalone resale, redistribution, use as a logo or trademark, creating a competing library and implying endorsement.
Commercial-Use Checklist
- Open the original asset page and confirm that commercial use is permitted.
- Record the creator, source URL, licence, download date and required credit.
- Check for identifiable people, private property, artwork, logos, brands and trademarks.
- Confirm that your intended use covers advertising, client work, templates, merchandise or resale where relevant.
- Do not redistribute or sell an unmodified asset unless the licence explicitly permits it.
- Recheck the terms before reusing the asset in a new project or distribution channel.
